Heritage in Schools

We were delighted to welcome Steffi Otto to our school this week as part of the Heritage In Schools Programme. We learned about the traditional skill of rope making and how important it was in the old days. We got to use traditional equipment that is over 100 years old when we made our own skipping ropes for using at break time!. We also got to play some games that children would have played in years gone by. In the afternoon, we learned about the skill of rush making and all the different items that can be made using rushes. We spent the rest of the afternoon making our own magic wands using rushes!

We also spent an afternoon last week collecting leaves from some of the variety of trees we are so lucky to have on our school grounds. We used these leaves to create lovely leaf rubbings in art class!

              Our First Term

Our students dived into the exciting world of STEM,      (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Through hands-on Lego model building and electrical circuit games creations. The children engaged in the West Mayo cross country in Murrisk in the beautiful sunshine in September. This term also featured a thrilling Maths Week and the Balla Blitz with 5th and 6th class. We have had fun-filled Halloween activities that sparked creativity and learning. Overall we had had a very successful, fun and enjoyable term.

We hope everyone has a well deserved break over the Halloween midterm and we look forward to welcoming all our students back on November 4th for another exciting and educational second term.
